We work with some of the most forward-thinking organisations in the voluntary, public, and private sectors. Our clients include most UK government departments, the Welsh Government, the Scottish Government, councils across the country, arms-length bodies, and several leading charities.
Internationally, we work with major supranational organisations including the World Bank, UNICEF, the WHO, the OECD, and the European Commission, as well as a number of national governments in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
The Graduate Scheme
What is it?
The Alma Graduate Scheme for Economists is designed for exceptional graduate economists with a commitment to public policy. Successful candidates will work on projects that tackle the most critical challenges facing society today. You will help shape the future of Alma Economics while laying the foundation for a rewarding career with us.
You will dive into research from the start, engaging in quantitative analysis and delivering clear, concise reports that effectively communicate complex economic insights in plain English. You will be mentored by top experts in their field, helping develop your analytical, teamwork, and project-management skills. You’ll have direct access to senior leadership, including regular engagement with the Managing Director, while working side-by-side with our Directors.
You will work as part of multi-disciplinary teams and be immediately exposed to clients and our partners. You will interact with our Tech, Commercial, and Communications teams, with the chance to move periodically between departments, gaining exposure to a range of projects and interacting with professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Exposure to diverse economics and project methodologies, including economic modelling, cost-benefit analysis, evaluation, policy analysis, and project management.

Who is it for?
We welcome applications from both recent graduates, as well as students in their final year of study. Having a Master’s degree or PhD is a considered a plus but not essential. Previous work experience in public policy consulting or related Economics roles are also considered a plus but not essential. In past years, we’ve hired individuals with a mix of these elements and will do so again this year.
We want candidates who are passionate about conducting research that impacts public policy. This includes but is not limited to housing and homelessness, children and young people, education and skills, health and social care, environment and sustainability, justice and human rights, culture, and tax and public finance.
Timings
We expect successful candidates to commence their roles in September 2025. However, starting dates can be flexible, so please propose in your cover letter alternative dates that you could potentially start.

Terms
The Alma Graduate Scheme for Economists offers competitive terms, with remuneration tailored to reflect your prior experience, such as advanced degree qualifications or previous work experience.
Requirements
University-level degree (minimum 2:1) in Economics, Econometrics, or related quantitative discipline.
A Master’s degree or PhD are considered a plus but not essential.
Previous work experience in public policy consulting or related Economics roles are also considered a plus but not essential.
Fluency in English – both written and oral (fluency in other languages - including Greek - is a plus, but not necessary).
Working arrangements
Alma Economics is a friendly and informal place, and our offices are designed for both work and play. We enjoy working from the office as we foster a strong culture within modern and fun spaces, allowing for casual catch ups, mentoring, brainstorming and teambuilding.
We do not have a one-size-fits-all WfH policy. Most staff members work from home for one or two days during a typical week, while it is also possible to arrange to WfH for more extended periods (e.g., 2-4 weeks) to visit family or travel.
While most staff work 5-day weeks, for most full-time positions we also offer the option of a 4-day working week, either from day one or as an arrangement employees can transition into later in their Alma career.
Our offices are disabled-accessible, and we are committed to providing all necessary support to colleagues that require it, but we are also happy to consider remote working arrangements for applicants with disabilities or health conditions that prevent them from working on-site.
