London is one of the world’s foremost fashion capitals, and London Fashion Week offers emerging designers an opportunity to showcase alongside some of the world’s most recognisable brands.
We were commissioned by DCMS to conduct an impact and economic of the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN programme, which supports a cohort of emerging fashion designers to showcase at London Fashion Week.
We developed a Theory of Change for the programme, analysed monitoring and cost data provided by the BFC, disseminated a survey to successful and unsuccessful applicants to NEWGEN, conducted int interviews with designers and industry experts, and a cost-benefit analysis to understand NEWGEN’s value for money.
Our evaluation found that NEWGEN had a positive impact on designers’ and brands’ commercial growth, financial and business sustainability, skills, and reputation and visibility. Furthermore, our CBA found that NEWGEN delivers good value for money, with a cost-benefit ratio of approximately 3:1.
