Lawrence is a Director at Alma Economics and an experienced economist and policy adviser. He has a strong background in applied econometrics, economic modelling, and stakeholder engagement, having worked at the UK Civil Service for over 10 years, shaping public policy and providing high-level economic analysis.
Prior to joining Alma, Lawrence held several leadership positions, such as Head of Oil and Gas Economics at the Department for Energy and Climate Change, where he managed a team of economists embedded in the International & Domestic Energy Security team and successfully represented the UK at various international meetings.
During his tenure as the Head of the Model Unit at HM Treasury, he led a team of economists reporting to the government’s Chief Economic Adviser and was also the lead analyst behind HM Treasury’s pre-referendum short-term EU exit analysis, winning the UK GES John Hoy prize for best piece of analysis in government.
While at Alma, Lawrence has advised public and private sector organisations on a range of issues, including taxation, housing, culture, and environmental outcomes. He has led a portfolio of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods projects for clients such as the Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish Governments, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and various local authorities, among others.
Lawrence holds an MSc in Economics from Birkbeck, University of London.
Away from the office, Lawrence applies his skills as a youth football coach for his local club, Sevenoaks Town FC.
